Introduction

Makanlah restaurant of Limkokwing University produced almost hundred pieces of receipt daily. 


We are trying to reduce these unnecessary receipt by implement few of green technology ideas. Our first idea is the paperless receipt. Paperless receipt will eliminate the uses of paper by converting papers into digital form. No more papers is required to print out the receipt as it send to the user’s email in the digital form. When we decided to build the kiosk alike system to Makanlah restaurant, we researched what else is too green to the environment.


Problem Statement

1a) Complaint manner and late solution to complaint due to only certain people have privilege to log in to the system.

b) Various stalls & various menus with different prices hence need more complex application to build the whole system.

c) Most of the student may still like pay with the cash. Hence with this new system they may worry of overspending.

d) Security issue.

2a) Users don't not like the single color kiosk screen.

b) Carbon footprint manner. Monitors used in the system.

Problem Solution

1a) Ensure a proper implemented receipt-less system.

b) Set up each mini kiosks for each food stall.

c) Prepaid card type.

d) Participation of assigned department from the university.  Held seminar to released the user manual.


2a) Create a blog to promote the awareness and importance of go green technology.

b) Use LCD monitor.



Objective


1. Paperless in transaction of purchases with electronic receipt system.

2. A low carbon footprint restaurant with LCD monitors.


Scope

1. Electronic receipt system - replace traditional manual purchase procedure, able to send post purchase detail to customers email or mobile device.

2. Low carbon footprint - LCD monitor used in the system with auto sleep mode save more energy compare to current CRT monitor.


Technologies


Hardware : 

1. Input devices :

a) Kiosk Machine  

i) Kiosk card reader - User touch (or place) their card onto the surface of the kiosk card reader as input.

ii) Kiosk storage - Store / backup all of the data and information of the transaction.

b) Computer
i) Online database - Store / backup all of the date and information of the transaction online.

2. Output devices :

a) Computer
i) Web server - Send out the electronic receipt to user’s email.


Software :

1. Internet connection

a) allelectronic or others ready made application




b) Custom application

3. Operating system

a) Windows or Linux
i) Windows xp, vista, 7 etc

4. Database management
a) Filemaker Pro - convenient to create, add / modify list offline, database linked, create invoice, send newsletter etc b) MYSQL


Rational

1. Kiosk machines to reduce the man power yet more efficiently manage the transaction of purchases.

2. Server send out the digital receipt to the user’s email thus avoided receipt in paper form.

3. The application software, we use allelectronic as our reference. However getting a custom application is more reliable because the food stalls could change the menus & prices from time to time.


Budget

1. Mini custom programmed kiosk machine x10 total is RM40, 000.
2. Computer & application software x1 - RM5000.
3. Maintenance fees RM2000 per year.
